Two Forgotten Friday Favorites: Buddy Holly

It's amazing to me that Buddy Holly was considered enormously successful for only a couple of years before a plane crash took his life at the age of 22. His music would go on to inspire countless musicians, most notably The Beatles. Thanks to Paul McCartney--who organized a celebration of Holly's career in 1976, the year Holly would have turned 40--Buddy Holly Week is now an annual event. John Lennon is quoted as saying, "Buddy Holly made is easy to wear glasses. I WAS Buddy Holly."

Asking me to choose two favorite Buddy Holly songs is like asking a two-year old to sit still for five minutes, but I've tried my darndest:

  1. Good choices! Thanks for giving me such a delightful start to my day!

  2. Good choices indeed! I was just reading an article about Bob Dylan. Bob saw Buddy in Minnesota only about a week before the plane went down. It's one of his most treasured memories.

  3. Thanks, Ruth and JZ. I love the song "Everyday"--it's so hopeful and uplifting.

  4. Count me in as a lover of Everyday. I have it on 45 somewhere (was in Stand by Me or another 80s movie?).

When I saw Buddy Holly's name that song instantly popped up in my head. I hadn't heard it in ages, so I sad down to play your clip. Thank you for posting. That is such an amazing song.
