Go Retro's Retro Hottie of the Month: Clint Eastwood!

Monday, August 02, 2010
Well if you woke up this morning and was thinking to yourself, "Go ahead, Go Retro, make my day" then today is your lucky day! Clint Eastwood isn't one of my celebrity crushes, but I've always been a bit surprised that I've never heard another person say that he's one of theirs; he's such a good looking guy and a talented actor/director. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that there are a lot of early Eastwood films that I've never seen. I'm more familiar with his later work, particularly movies that he directed. I thought Grand Torino was one of the most moving films I've seen in a long time, and didn't really get the credit that it deserved. Million Dollar Baby made me sob. And who could forget the Dirty Harry movies, those ridiculous 70s/80s flicks with the orangatang (Any Which Way You Can and Every Which Way But Loose) or Play Misty for Me? One thing's for certain: Clint can be a good guy on the screen, or bad, but he'll never be ugly!

I always thought he and Sondra Locke made a lovely couple. They made six movies together.

  1. I wouldn't consider him a hottie either but there is something about him that I like. I haven't seen that many of his movies- 2 plus most of 1 of the Dirty Harry films, Play Misty For Me and 2 others. I have Grand Tourino on my library rental list.

  2. Oh, I love that you love Gran Tornio. Balled like a baby. What a beautiful film.

OK, so I don't have may claims to fame, but I used to work at the DGA in LA and went to the DGA Awards twice. One year I had gotten separated from my friend and was lingering in the lobby and there was a huge crowd... of famous people! So, I was sort of just looking around and someone brushes their hand across my ass. It was an accident, but I was annoyed so I turned around to say, "Excuse you!" or something just as stupid and look up and... well, it's Clint Eastwood! He touched my butt! My butt has been near greatness! :)

Anyway, my fiance likes to embellish and Clint was feeling me up in his version, but truly it was just an accident. It was still neat though!

I met Kiefer Sutherland that night too (very, very nice guy)! All in all, good times!

I like Clint. Sudden Impact is a really harrowing movie he made with Sondra. It's a difficult film in some ways, and I loved how some older action films could really challenge the viewer as well as creating great shoot 'em up scenes.

    OK, I'll stop now!

  3. I met Clint at a CHP event during his Dirty Harry days. Very, very nice man. He posed for some pictures (of just him) for me, and I sent them out as Christmas cards (signed "from me and Clint"). It was fun!

  4. OK all, so I can't comment on the Hottie part, but his role as the "Man With No Name" in the spaghetti western trilogy (and I have an aversion to Westerns) is simply an understated minimalist spectacular (can their be such a thing?). I think, these are not just guy movies at all. Not just me; Wikipedia has entries and Rotten Tomatoes gives them the highest of ratings. I just finished watching "Yojimbo", the japanese movie they were based on and recommend it as well. Get some popcorn Pam@GoRetro and settle in for good rainy-day movie watching. Someday let us know what you think!?

  6. Such great stories about meeting Clint! Now I feel like the only one who hasn't met him yet.

I'm not a fan of westerns, but I did like him in The Outlaw Josey Wales (even as dirty looking as he was, he was sexy.) But maybe the next time Man With No Name is on cable, I'll give it a whirl.

  8. For an early Hottie-Appearance i recommend "The Beguiled" from 1971. An injured Eastwood (as a Union soldier) is nursed (and loved) by a bunch of Confederate girls at a boarding school. And as time goes by, the imdb.com states: "As he starts to recover, one by one he charms them and the atmosphere becomes filled with jealousy and deceit." The movie features a whole lot of retro charme and a very handsome Mr. Eastwood. ;-)
